This is an original MK III Pattern 1887 Martini Henry sword bayonet approved 22nd June 1888 (see page 383 Number 794 and page 318 of ‘The Bayonet Book’ by Watts & White). The steel blade correctly without fullers is 18 ¼” length and has just light staining consistent with age (just over 23 ½” overall). The blade has WD broad arrow and ordnance inspection marks together with maker name Wilkinson Sword London, Queen’s Crown VR (Victoria Regina) & ‘/89’ (denoting production in 1889). The stippled boiled hard leather grips have original fine stippling and have no damage. They are secured by the correct 2 rivets. The hilt has the correct steel pommel release button which works firmly. The cross guard has the correct stepped muzzle ring. The bayonet has its original steel mounted black leather scabbard. The throat mount is numbered ‘10957’. The rear of the throat mount has a shallow dent consistent with service carry. The price includes UK delivery. Sn 23687:7 (Box 2)
