Pistol / Hand GunsDeringer19th Century Continental Pepperbox Percussion Pistol
~ 19th Century Continental Percussion Pistol ~
This is an unmarked pistol of a serious calibre. Designed as a self defence firearm our .53 cal example is rather unusual due to the fact that the percussion hammer is situated on the right side instead of being in the centre of the gun.
Another unusual feature is a raised section situated beneath the nipple, which has been designed as a safety feature and it will deflect any fulminate residue resulted in the firing of the pistol.
The trigger is fixed and it appears that at one point in time a trigger guard was fitted to the gun.
The hexagonal barrel is un-rifled.
The pistol half cocks, cocks and releases.
~ Dimensions ~
The barrel length is 2.75 inches (7 cm) and the overall length of the piece is 7.08 inches (18 cm).
~ Condition ~
The pistol is in fair condition for its age.
There is some amount of surface rust on the metalwork.
The bore is rusty as well and the nipple is worn.
The wooden grip remains free of serious damage.
~ Postage ~
UK postage is £18 or the sword can be collected from our shop in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.
