Formed in 1832, the City of London Police is the territorial police force responsible for law enforcement within the City of London, England, including the Middle and Inner Temples. The force responsible for law enforcement within the remainder of the London region, outside the city, is the much larger Metropolitan Police, a separate organisation. This is an original lignum vitae tropical hardwood City of London Presentation Police Truncheon. It is 15” length. The wood is undamaged and has a deep grooved grip with rounded butt recessed for wrist strap. The butt of the grip is impressed by the maker ‘Hiatt & Co Bham (Birmingham)’. The staff is mounted with a white metal plate engraved ‘City of London, Cyril F Lewis Chief Commoner Some Time Chairman of the Police Committee'.
