This is a Contemporary Metal ‘U-Boat’ Pin for the 9th ‘U-Boat’ Flotilla comes with a paper commemorative card for ‘Hans Walter’ who was a Seaman 1st Class on ‘U107’ and was lost with all hands on the 18th August 1944 when his ‘U-Boat’ was intercepted and depth charged by a ‘short Sunderland’ of the R.A.F. in the bay of Biscay. The boat sank with the loss of all 58 hands. The pin could have been worn by crew members or more likely sent home as a ‘Sweetheart’ brooch for Mothers, Wives or Girlfriends.
