The AK47 (Avtomat Kalashnikova 1947) is the world's most produced assault rifle and one of the most recognisable firearms ever made. In the United Kingdom, all live-firing AK47s are Section 5 prohibited weapons under the Firearms Act 1968 and cannot be held by private individuals.
The AK47s available through Gunstar classifieds are deactivated examples (permanently disabled to UK or EU deactivation specifications) or blank-firing replicas regulated under the Violent Crime Reduction Act 2006 (VCRA). Deactivated AK47s can be held without a firearms certificate. Those deactivated after 8 April 2016 under the EU standard will carry both a UK Home Office certificate and European proof house verification marks; pre-2016 deactivations are legal to hold but carry additional restrictions on transfer between private individuals. Blank-firing replicas require a legitimate defence such as film production, theatre or historical re-enactment to purchase.
