This is a model in brass and aluminium that was presented to Mr G.C. Shephard CBE at Opening of Barnsley Main Training Centre, on Saturday 17th November 1979. The model is a good replica of a coal mine pit head and was probably made b the apprentices at the pit at Barnsley. Mr. G. C. Shephard, FCIS, ACMA, MBIM, held a senior executive role within the National coal Board, specifically as the Board Member for Industrial Relations. In this capacity, he was deeply involved in the management of the UK’s nationalised coal mines and the complex industrial relations of that era. The model measures 10 ½ inches in length, 10 ½ inches high and 4 ½ inches wide. The plaque is engraved PRESENTED TO MR.G.C. SHEPHARD C.B.E AT THE OPENING OF BARNSLEY MAIN TRAINING CENTRE SATURDAY 17th NOV 1979. The model has been nicely made and is in a good clean condition.
