This is an original WW2, pilots leg strap for holding flare cartridges which were used by the pilots for identification. The strap is made from a green canvas like fabric and was worn by Luftwaffe pilots and crew most often below or right above the knee. The flare strap holds 6 flares. The strap measures 22 inches long and contains 3 alloy fired flare cartridges. The cartridges are headstamped fnk (Adolf Hopf AG, Tambach-Dietharz in Thueringen), skn in a triangle and vmd in a triangle. The leg strap was also used by used by Fallschirmjäger / Paratroopers / Paratroopers.
