WW1, 1913 Dated, Gunsight off 4 Inch Q.F. Vickers Gun Mark IV.

The 4-inch QF Mark IV Naval Gun was introduced in 1911 by Vickers and served as standard armament on Royal Navy destroyers and defensively armed merchant ships through World War I and World War II. The was semi-automatic with the recoil opening the breech and ejecting the cartridge. On loading a new cartridge, the breech closed and the gun was ready to fire again. The gun fired a 32lb high explosive shell up to 10,200yards. This is part of the gunsight of the 4 inch QF gun mad by Vickers in 1913. The outer part measures 9 inches in diameter with a geared outer ring and 2 mounting screw holes. The inner is a 7 ½ inch diameter dial engraved from 0 to 60 coloured in red and black for 2000 yard range. The plate is engraved 4 INCH Q.F. GUN MARK IV ON P.IXGs M.V.2200 F.S. together with left and right deflection and the pointer setting mark. Both plates are heavily nickel plated.
