The Avon & Somerset Constabulary was created on 1st April 1974 from a merger of the Bristol City Police, the Somerset & Bath Constabulary and the Staple Hill Division of Gloucestershire Constabulary. This is a very good, male Constable's/ Sergeant's Helmet of the Avon & Somerset Constabulary . It is likely that this is an old Bristol helmet re-badged on the formation of the Avon & Somerset Constabulary as this helmet follows the style of helmets used by Bristol and apparently this practice was a common occurrence. It has a Navy blue 6 panel body, chromed rose boss & Avon & Somerset Constabulary Queen’s Crown (QE II) white metal helmet plate.
