Description

British 1901 Dated, 1888 Pattern MK I Type 2 Sword Bayonet To The Gloustershire Regiment & Leather MK II Naval Pattern Scabbard With Riveted Integral Frog. Sn 7978.

The Enfield Lee Metford, 1888 Mark 1, Type 2 Bayonet was manufactured for the British .303 calibre Enfield, Lee Metford Rifle which were issued to British and allied forces during the Boer War and WW1. The Bayonet has a double edged and unfullered blade with a medial ridge running from the ricasso to the blade tip. The blade has some light staining but no rust. The ricasso of the blade is marked, 1 '1, identifying the Bayonet as being manufactured in Jan 1901. The reverse of the ricasso is stamped with inspection marks. The pommel is stamped ' 5 GR' to the 5th Battalion Gloustershire Regiment, with number '501'. It is also stamped 'V. 2 GR 33' which has been struck out. This Bayonet comes complete with Naval Pattern MK II leather scabbard with integral riveted belt loop (see page 183 of British & Commonwealth Bayonets by Skennerton). The belt loop is missing 2 rivets but these could easily be replaced. The body of the scabbard is stamped with the Royal Navy 'N' designation with War Dept arrow. Price includes UK delivery. Sn 7978.
