British Lancaster Sword Bayonet For The Royal Sappers and Miners Carbine of 1855 & Brown Leather Scabbard. Sn 10174

A highly prized British Lancaster Sword Bayonet for the Royal Sappers and Miners Carbine of 1855 and brown leather scabbard. In 1855 the Royal Sappers and Miners adopted their own .577 firearm and the model chosen was Charles Lancaster's highly efficient oval bore carbine. It has many unusual features, a beaked pommel and cross guard made of brass and the falchion blade is pipebacked. It has a leaf spring secured with a screw. The bayonet has a polished steel pipebacked blade which has a central fuller. It is 24" in length and has a quill point. The ricasso has various ordnance stamps. It has a beak point pommel in brass which is stamped above the leaf spring "SC 3385". The cross guard has a full muzzle ring. It has black chequered grips secured with four rivets. The blade is in very good condition. The scabbard is brown leather with a brass top and chape. The mouth is stamped with "37-0-8-52". The mount also incorporates a belt hook. (See pages 303 and 367 fig. 748 of The Bayonet Book by P. White). The price includes UK delivery
