Description

C1800 English Blake Of London Pair Of 54 Bore Brass Flintlock Pocket Pistols With Screw Off Barrels. Sn 16632 - 16632

George Blake was an English gunsmith recorded as having premises at various London addresses, 168 Fenchurch Street 1784-91, 104 Gun Dock Wapping 1793-1804, succeeded by wife Ann Blake 95 Wapping Old Stairs 1805-1816, 253 High Street Wapping 1817-22, succeeded by her son John Alkin Blake 1823-33; John Alkin Blake & Co 1834-53, 35 Upper East Smithfield 1853-64 (see page 142 of Brown’s book British Gunmakers Vol.1). This is an excellent pair of brass flintlock pocket pistols by Blake of London. The matching pistols have steel hammers fitted with flints, steel pans and sliding safety catches. The brass frames are both signed ‘Blake’ on one side and ‘London’ within Martial banners & arms on the reverse. Both measure 5 ½” overall & have 1 ¼” screw off brass barrels. The smooth bores of each barrel are clean. Both pistols have concealed folding triggers & crisp black powder proofs on the underside of their actions. They both have undamaged bag shape walnut stocks, each inlaid with void silver escutcheon. Their cocking & firing actions work perfectly. The price includes UK delivery. NB No licence is required to own these antique flintlock pistols in the UK if retained as part of a collection or display. Sn 16632
