**BLANK FIRER**Late Victorian Era Liege Belgium .22 Blank Rim Fire Calibre Single Shot Breech Loading Postman’s Dog Scarer Pistol. MISC 1050 - MISC 1050

This is an antique single-shot, blank firing pistol of the pattern traditionally attributed to late 19th-century postmen as a dog attack deterrent. This is an original Liege form example. It is top venting and has a blocked 3 ½” long round stepped to octagonal barrel (5 ½” overall). It has original bag shaped wood grips. The single action only firing mechanism works as it should. The breech has a hinged loading plate, separate extractor plate and spurred hammer. One side of the barrel is numbered ‘17’ and the underside of the barrel has number ‘5’ within roundel (all illustrated). This pocket-sized pistol correctly lacks traditional sights or a trigger guard, consistent with its intended use as a noise-making device. The metal work in the white is undamaged.
