The Webley MK IV .450/ .455 revolver was approved for British military service on 5th October 1899. These weapons were supplied in such large quantities to British troops engaged in the South African wars during 1899 – 1902, it was often referred to as the ‘Boer War Model’ (see page 201 of Webley Revolvers by Reinhart). These weapons also saw service in WW1. This is an excellent original example of the Boer War Model Webley MK IV revolver. It has the correct 4" barrel and retains its original blue finish. The pistol has the correct undamaged 'Birds Head' shaped chequered panel grips. The frame is crisply marked ‘Webley Patents’, ‘MK IV’ and has South Africa Union War Dept mark on the grip strap together with Regiment mark ‘9 I.N.F 17’ (unknown) & the cylinder frame has date ‘8 ’14 (August 1914). The pistol has matching serial numbers 129206 / 206 on the barrel block, underside of the frame and cylinder. The pistol is fitted with military lanyard ring. Deactivated to UK/EU specification in 2019, the pistol has a moving trigger which rotates the cylinder but it does not cock & dry fire. The pistol has open cylinders that will accept inert rounds & it comes with 6 inert deactivated rounds of .455 ammunition. The pistol also comes with a period Sam Browne pattern leather holster which originally would have been for a MK VI revolver but has been period cut down to fit this revolver most likely for service in WW1.
