The Webley "Sprint" is a highly collectible vintage .22 calibre blank-firing starting pistol produced by the historic British manufacturer Webley & Scott. Unlike the more common Webley Mk 1, Mk 2, and Mk 3 models—which famously utilized a horizontal sliding metal block magazine fed through the front of the frame—the Sprint features a unique design where the magazine inserted directly into the pistol grip. Made during the 1950’s & 60’s they quickly became a popular choice for sporting events. It features a sleek design with a sturdy construction, showcasing the craftsmanship and attention to detail for which Webley & Scott is renowned. The pistol is made of blued steel and features black bakelite chequered grips, providing both durability and aesthetic appeal. The pistol fires .22 (6mm) calibre blank cartridges, which produce a loud report and smoke when fired, creating a distinct signal for the commencement of races or other events. The reliability and loudness of the report made the Webley a preferred choice for many race officials and competitors. Although the Webley is primarily associated with sporting events, it also found its way into theatrical performances and historical re-enactments. Its realistic appearance and sound effects allowed it to effectively simulate the firing of a real firearm without the danger of live ammunition. Its loading, firing & safety catch mechanisms work correctly. The metalwork is very good with all original finish. The grips are excellent. The frame of the pistol has maker model and calibre detail (illustrated). The pistol comes with its original Webley labelled box & has illustrated instruction leaflet copies.
