This is an original 1853/72 pattern Martini Henry rifle socket bayonet with British markings to the blade. The Enfield socket bayonet was approved for the Martini Henry rifle as a conversion in 1872 by bushing the socket to the smaller diameter prior the introduction of the pattern 1976 socket bayonet. The blade is stamped on the ricasso 140 and the sold out of service stamp. The socket retains much of its worn original blued finish and is complete with its blued locking ring. The black leather scabbard has brass fittings. The scabbards leatherwork and metalwork are in good condition. See pages 233 – 234 in The Martini-Henry for Queen and Empire by Neil Aspinshaw. The price for this bayonet includes UK delivery. Sn 23766
