British India Pattern 1859 Socket Bayonet & Scabbard. This is an India pattern 1859 socket bayonet which is often confused with the British 1853. Except for the larger muzzle ring diameter (M.R.D) of larger 20.4mm to fit the larger profile barrel of the India 1859 musket. It is 20.5” in overall length with a blade length of 17 ¼ “ and a socket length of 3”. The blade is marked with an inspection stamp and other un-deciphered letters. There is a ‘W’ in a square on the elbow and a ‘P’ on the locking ring. The scabbard is brass mounted leather. See Skennerton item 130, pages 330 & 331. BAYO 666
