British No 7 MK 1/L Swivelling Pommel Bayonet With Red Composite Grips For No 4 Rifles and Scabbard. Sn 13583 - 13583

An original No 7 MK 1/L, bayonet with swivelling pommel and red Tufnell grips, made for the No 4 Rifle and MK V Sten Sub Machine Guns. The 'L' designation is for Land Service. It was only issued to the Guards and a few other selected units. The pommel has to be in the 'swivelled' position to fix it to a rifle or S.M.G. The pommel is locked in position with latch on top of the tang. This operates smoothly. It has a 8” blade (12.25" overall) with bowie knife style blade and deep fuller to both sides. The blade and composite grips are in great undamaged condition as is it's steel scabbard. The blade is stamped on the ricasso 'No 7 MK1/L'. The scabbard is the No 5 MK 2 with a brass mouth piece. It is complete with a webbing frog dated 1971. (see page 242 & 243, item B299 in Skennerton's 'British & Commonwealth Bayonets book). The price includes UK delivery. Sn 13583
