This is an original WW1, 1917 dated webbing sling for the British service SMLE rifle by Waring’s (Waring & Gillow Ltd). The sling is made of webbing with brass ends, each riveted to the sling with copper rivets. the sling attachments to the rifle are made of steel. One of the brass ends is stamped WARING’S 1917 (date). The Waring’s stamp is from the famous furniture makers Waring & Gillow Limited who manufactured wooden and textile items in WW1. There are traces of black stencilling to the sling as illustrated. The sling is in a good used condition with wear from service use.
