I live in Coventry and amongst other air rifles and a pistol, I bought a second hand Remington Warhawk underleaver for £140 from Leicestershire Airguns spending in total close to £1000.
It was problematic from the start, so i took it to my local gun dealer to get an opinion, he suggested a service so I went with with that. Spending another £85.
I received a call a day later from the dealer saying his engineer had stripped the gun down and it had been totally botched as someone had used broken off hss drill bits in place of the correct pins (photos were provided) and that had caused one of the holes to go oval making the gun dangerous, as it may go off without the trigger being pulled.
I phoned Leicestershire airguns and sent them the evidence photos and Tracey said she would speak to the guy in charge and he would get back to me.
He said I could have a free tin of pellets as a good will gesture as I hadn't travelled the 60 miles round trip to see them first.
This place maybe a little cheaper but there's a very good reason for that.
BUYERS BEWARE!!!!!!!
Hi Tracey......
IN REPLY TO YOUR INACCURATE RESPONSE, TO MY RECENT REVIEW, I EXPLAINED WHY I DIDN'T REPORT THE RIFLE TO YOU STRAIGHT AWAY, I TOLD YOU THAT I'D FIRED A FEW PELLETS THROUGH IT AFTER I'D BOUGHT IT IN THE WINTER AND THEN STORED IT AWAY BECAUSE OF TERRIBLE WET WEATHER, AT NO POINT DID YOU OR PHIL OFFER TO LOOK AT THE RIFLE FOR ME, YOU SAID YOU WOULD TALK TO PHIL AND WHEN HE GOT BACK TO ME THE TIN OF PELLETS WAS THE ONLY COMPENSATION OFFERED TO WHICH I REPLIED.......
"ONLY IF I BUY SOMETHING FROM YOU IN THE FUTURE AND HAVE IT DELIVERED".
The reason for this whole review is that I wanted to know why the rifle was faltering again after the recent full service, so I got an engineer to strip it down and he told me that the rifle was a ticking time bomb and could go off after cocking at any time, this was due to the high speed drill bit part had worn an oval hole which was initially circular in the mainspring housing, which meant the trigger was holding the mainspring back by a whisper.
The fact is you sold me a lemon and used the time it took me to report it (wettest winter in many years) and that I took it to a local gun shop that has been in business for over 30 years instead of travelling the 60+ (round trip) to you as an excuse to not even bother to even offer to take a look at it. TAKING A LOOK WAS NEVER OFFERED
let alone an offer to take the rifle back!!!!!!
When I accepted your response initially I thought its my own fault because I had taken too long, but now I know the full extent of the danger I was putting people in that where anywhere near me, because of this rifle I feel you should bear some if not all of the responsibility as a "Well known trusted air rifle dealer" for buying it and not checking it and it being in public circulation.
I honestly believe that you are lucky that I bought it and as a responsible air rifle user took it, got it checked out at great expense with the service and engineers costs and took it out of circulation. Should you wish to have it examined i have it still, have it for now but will be having it destroyed at some point in the near future.
Regards Anthony Masterson.
