The London based Barnett family of Gunsmiths are recorded at various addresses in London from 1796 to 1908 starting with Thomas Barnett at 134 Minories (see page 140 of Brown’s book British Gunmakers Vol.1). This an excellent original brass barrelled flintlock blunderbuss by R. Barnett Minories London. These types of Blunderbuss were favoured by Coachmen for protection against attack from Highwaymen. It is 31 ½” overall with a bell mouth 15 ¾” long brass cannon barrel. The barrel has crisp black powder proofs and is signed ‘Minories London’. The muzzle opening is 1 ¼” wide. The smooth bore has staining & residue consistent with age & use. It has a plain lock plate signed ‘R. Barnett’, Swan neck cock fitted with flint, Walnut full stock and brass mounts including butt plate with extended tang, side plate, trigger guard with extended tang & ram rod flutes.
