Also known Bat jum dao knives and used by the Wing Chun style of martial art - Kung fu known as Wing Chun.
These are an exceptional pair for age, we have had quite a few over many years but these really do top the lot, they also have the original side by side single scabbard - sheath which is very unusual to see as most antique pairs do not retain them.
The blades are made from typical Chinese laminates steel, showing a typical pattern on both but as normal with Chinese blades the laminate shows more on one side of each, both have a top false edge at the tip on both sides of the blade but the spines are flat from hilt to tip, both are still quite sharp and have no edge damage or other.
The hilts of both have carved hardwood grip sections which show traditional Chinese motifs and patterns, they have a top and bottom ferrule on each in brass, the large guards (ideal for western hands for Wing Chun) being a brass metal and solid, flat on one side so that they fit both side by side, the tangs are through tangs and are peened at the ends of the hook type knuckle guards.
The scabbard - sheath is made from leather and has a the original copper alloy mounts, none are damaged or missing and overall these are an exceptional pair of Hudiedao - Bat Jum dao.
