The current, shambolic general licences expire on 29 February 2020. Tied in legal knots by the anti-shooting Wild Justice group, UK environment department DEFRA is currently not in a position to issue new general licences for the shooting and trapping of pest birds in England when they expire in February, says the shooting organisation BASC.

Back in the 70s, a business called Ultra-Hi released an inexpensive bb musket-like airgun! Ultra-Hi Products Co. Inc. to give them their full title was located in Hawthorne, New Jersey and with the 200-year Bi-Centenary of Independence upon the nation this unique little bb gun called the BB76 Pioneer was soon on sale.

In the late 80s PCP was expensive, elitist and because of cost, frightened most people away. But in only a few years prices dropped, with newer, lighter, and more affordable airguns appearing every year. If you like old air pistols then you may well know the name Webley. Their shared pistol design is a spring chamber with a barrel riding piggyback. On release, the piston pushes the air towards the breech block then up and out into the barrel. Very odd - the air does a U turn. Webley decided to have a go at air rifles but strangely kept to this layout.

Collecting and using airguns from 100 years ago can be inevitable. One old name that is held in awe by many is Britannia. The name refers to the Britannia Air Rifle which appeared in Edwardian Britain then passed into airgun folklore.

Many new Co2 repliguns appeared in the 90's. Barely noticed in amongst the Daisy, Gamo and Crosmans one little air pistol arrived - from Russia. Baikal was already known for shotguns and target shooting.

A well used and looked after airgun will be 'run in' and may well be better to use than when new. Possibly an older air rifle may just be in need of some basic T.L.C. Better is one that's been tuned or customised to a high standard.

A bit like Paddington Bear the rifle came with a note pinned to it, but what it says confuses things even further.

You don’t have to look far in the shooting world to find gun adverts and almost every single one of those gun adverts, when it regards a shotgun, will extol the new and exciting barrel technology that these gunmakers have produced. Better patterns, smoother shooting, less pellet defamation. All to get us to be more interested in their new product.
