During the Game Fair of 1982 held at Tatton Park, Knutsford, Cheshire BSA launched a centenary air rifle to commemorate the now famous ‘piled arms’ trademark of BSA (although the Company was established in 1861 it was not until 1882 that the trademark was introduced). Based on the Airsporter S with a new ¾ length stutzen stock the centenary air rifles were produced in a strict production number of 1,000 rifles. Serial numbers of these rifles ran from C0001 to C1000. Accessories that accompanied these rifles were one, 4 x 40 Telescopic sight, 1 Pair Sight Mounts, 1 Pair Sling Swivels,1 Sling in Basketweave Leather, 1 BSA Deluxe Gun Cover with thick pile lining 1x Embroidered B.S.A. Badge, 1 Shooting Kit comprising: Target Holder: Targets: Pellets: Gun Oil, the items specially marked with the commemorative message (see page 59 of The Collector’s Guide To Air Rifles By Hiller). This is a near mint complete example of the centenary edition set in .22 calibre. The rifle measures 45” overall with a 19 ½” barrel. The rifle has an undamaged ¾ stutzen walnut stock with contoured cheek piece and rosewood fore end cap. The stock has a finely chequered wrist and fore stock panels for grip and is fitted with its sling swivel lugs fitted with its basket weave leather sling & a rubber recoil pad the end of which bears the BSA stacked rifles logo. The weapon's barrel is stamped 'BSA Guns England .22 Cal' also with the BSA stacked rifles logo. The left side of the barrel is stamped with the correct limited edition serial number 'CO751'. It has a shrouded ramp blade fore sight, adjustable rear sight & telescopic sight grooves. The top of the air cylinder has the correct commemorative script highlighted in gold ‘BSA Piled Arms Centenary 1982 One Of One Thousand’. The telescopic sight with sight mounts have the correct BSA 4x40 markings, protective lens covers and original BSA box. The weapon's metal work is in excellent undamaged condition and retains all of its original finish. The weapon loads and fires with a strong spring action. It is complete with its original BSA Centenary cardboard box with BSA labelling & all original Centenary edition accessories. The rifle set comes with its limited edition certificate of issue numbered ‘CO751’ & illustrated instructions. Its original padded leather carry case with shoulder strap is excellent apart from as common the plastic carry handles have become damaged at some point in its life.
