This is a modern trench art fired Soviet 85mm cartridge case for the Soviet 85mm M1939 (52-K) anti aircraft gun bought by a RAF fast jit pilot in a market in Basra during the Gulf War. The gun was developed and introduced into service in 1939 and was the main Soviet anti aircraft gun used through WW2. After WW2, the gun was used by several countries up to recent times including Iraq. This elaborately engraved 85mm fired cartridge case was bought by a RAF fast jet pilot from a market in Basra during the Gulf War and brought back to England. This is an impressive 25 inch high cartridge case which is supported on a three legged brass stand and was used in a 85mm anti aircraft gun.
