DEACTIVATED INERT. This is a rare German 1916 Dated ‘Fused Stick Grenade model 1916’ ‘potato masher stick grenade’. The steel body has the detachable cap of the 1916 model retained by two bayonet lugs and two pressed steel lugs folded over. Each of the steel lugs is held to the body by two rivets. The wooden throwing shaft is stamped ‘5 ½ Sekunden ’(5 ½ seconds delay) ELB (the manufacturer). The steel canister is screwed onto the wooden throwing shafts screwed collar, which is retained to the shaft by 4 round headed screws. The fuse cap is held to the throwing shaft by four rivets and the eight sided safety cap is held together by 2 rivets. The porcelain arming ball and pull cord is present.
