Description

British WD Enfield Pattern 1887 Early MK I Sword Bayonet For Martini Rifles Regiment Marked ‘N.E.P’ & Scabbard. Sn 16058 - 16058

This is an early MK I Pattern 1887 sword bayonet newly made by Enfield in 1887 and not a converted 1886 Pattern. The blade has a fuller on each side. One side carries an "/87" date (1887) together with another date mark ‘98’ indicating later re-issue or inspection in 1898. The other side of the blade carries the broad arrow over WD and an Enfield inspection stamp. The back edge of the blade also carries 2 inspection stamps. The grips are the first pattern knurled leather type, held by 4 steel rivets. The pommel carries N.E.P. over 8465 which is an unknown regimental marking. The scabbard is the standard steel mounted black leather type (see Skennerton's Bayonet Book, Pages 160 to 163 item B205). The price includes U.K. delivery. Sn 16058
