The Fusil Modèle 1886 M93, universally known as the Lebel rifle, was the primary infantry rifle used by the French Army during World War 1. It is celebrated in military history as a massive technological leap: it was the first military firearm in the world to use smokeless powder ammunition. This invention completely revolutionized infantry tactics, sparking a global arms race. This is an extremely rare WW1 French Lebel Model 1886/93 8mm Calibre Service rifle with bayonet & scabbard. It has a 31 ½” barrel and measures 51” overall. It has all original undamaged wood with just the bumps & bruises to be expected and undamaged metalwork. It has adjustable rear sight, block & blade fore sight, bayonet bar and sling swivels. The left side of the frame is marked with model and Tulle arsenal manufacturer detail (illustrated). The metal and wood have matching numbers ‘15747’, the bolt has un-matching number. Deactivated to UK/EU specification in 2026 the rifle’s bolt and trigger move but it does not cock & dry fire. The rifle is fitted with an original French Lebel M1886 Bayonet & Scabbard. The bayonet is in excellent condition. It has a brass hilt, down swept quillon and button release catch. The 20 ½” clean blade is the usual Lebel cruciform shape and the scabbard is black tubular steel with no dents or damage.
