The Mark I SMLE was first approved on 23rd December 1902 (see page 398 of The Lee Enfield Story by Skennerton). This an extremely rare to find original British WD SMLE MK I Rifle and retains MK 1 features consisting of, winged adjustable rear sight arrangement with horn inserts, Winged Fore sight, long nose cap mounted with bayonet lug, a sliding charger guide mounted onto the bolt head, safety catch, Navy issue magazine cut off (Skennerton states MK 1’s with magazine cut off’s were Naval issue, although the other service rifles had provision for this component and many were fitted later on, see page 398 of his book). The rifle also has part of its original long range volley sights and has a brass butt plate with trap. The rifle has all original woodwork throughout which has knocks bumps and bruises to be expected with age & service use. On one side the grip strap has crisp markings ‘King’s Crown ER (Edward Rex) SHTE I’, ‘LSA Co Ld’ and ‘1904’ date. The serial number of the rifle is 3860K and there are other un-matching numbers (illustrated). Deactivated to early UK specification in 1993 the rifle cocks and dry fires crisply and its magazine can be removed, the magazine cut off has been fixed in place during the deactivation process. The rifle’s sling swivels are fitted with original webbing sling. The price for this extremely rare rifle includes UK delivery and deactivation certificate. Sn 23695
