**EXTREMELY RARE**POSSIBLY UNIQUE WILKINSON COLLECTION EXHIBITION PIECE**Miniature British 1st Pattern Type FS Commando Fighting Knife With Etched Panel Blade, Scabbard & Bonhams Auction Catalogue Dated 11/4/2006 In Which The Knife Featured & Was Sold. - 23577

The 1st Pattern FS fighting knife was introduced in 1940 and produced by Wilkinson Sword (see page 63 of The Fairbairn Sykes Fighting Knife & Other Commando Knives By Flook). In his book page 142 the author illustrates a 2nd type miniature FS knife and scabbard and comments that a 1st pattern type miniature has been noted. This possibly unique miniature 1st pattern, FS dagger with its original scabbard is most likely a Wilkinson collection exhibition piece. We have never seen one of these miniatures before. The brass hilt retains has correct knurled grip. The ricasso is marked on one side with ‘Wilkinson Sword’ and their crossed swords legend. Its double edged dagger blade with medial ridge measures a diminutive 113mm in length. The undamaged blade has just light areas of staining consistent with age. It is complete with original tan leather scabbard with brass chape & integral belt loop with leather retaining strap which has a brass lug fastener. The scabbard has its original 4 sewn on leather tabs as found on full size FS daggers. All leather & stitching are clean & intact. The miniature is accompanied by a Bonhams auction catalogue dated 11/4/2006 in which the knife featured & was sold (lot 157). This miniature is illustrated and listed on page 22 of the catalogue and also features on the front cover (our image 1 bottom right is the image of the miniature in the catalogue).
