1770-1780's 50 bore Flintlock pocket pistol, with 1.5" turn-off barrel. Steel locks and trigger guard with line and scroll engraving, and on one side inscribed 'Nock' and the other 'London'. On underside of frame are stamped proof marks of a Private piece, as opposed to Military, 'Crowned Cross Scepters'. This would have been a private individual commissioning Henry Nock to make a small pocket Flintlock pistol, for personal protection. The lock works just as it should with the hammer cocking in half and then full cock, and the trigger firing only on full cock. A dark hardwood slab butt, made probably of walnut. A well made piece of history, made by one of the best gunsmiths of the day, who was also the Father in Law of John Bass and uncle of Samuel Nock, but sadly he passed away in 1790.
