An original & scarce WW2 era Nazi German Luftwaffe dress bayonet with birds head pommel which has a sprung steel button, rifle lug slot with green felt insert, Stag antler grips and swept cross guard. The 9 ¾” single edged, fullered polished blade is marked by the manufacturer at the ricasso ‘E u F Horster Solingen’ together with trade mark. The blade has a crisp etched & blued panel on one side with Oak leaves, Nazi Eagle with Swastika, Image of a Luftwaffe Flak Artillery piece & motto ‘Zur Erinnerung Meine Dienstzeit’ (In Memory Of My Service Time). The bayonet is similar to etched presentation bayonets illustrated on pages 16 to 34 and page 58 of the book German Clamshells & Other bayonets by Walker & Weinand. The bayonet is complete with its original black painted steel scabbard. The scabbard is fitted with an original black leather frog. The back of the frog’s belt loop has at some point in its life had ‘AS’ or ‘A5’ lightly had etched into the leather. The frog has a retaining strap with steel stud fastener.
