INERT DEACTIVATED. This is an unfired American practice round for (30x173) GAU-8 7 barrelled Gatling aircraft gun fitted to the Republic A10 tank buster aircraft, produced from 1977 and is capable of firing 4,200 rounds per minute. The alloy cartridge case has a brass coloured lacquered finish and has a brass percussion primer. There is no headstamp to the cartridge case but it is stencilled in white 28107310Y USE9101??23. The side of the cartridge case is stencilled in white 28113791. The steel projectile has a wide nylon driving bands and a light blue alloy ballistic cap. The projectile retains most of its original mid blue painted finish to the ballistic cap. See pages 60 - 61, Janes Ammunition Handbook, 1st Edition 1993 – 4.
