INERT DEACTIVATED. This is a near mint, original, Mills No.36M MK 1, hand grenade made at the Royal Ordnance Factory in Patricroft. The 36M refers to the pattern of the 36 Grenade originally 'Mesopotamia' and the fact they were waterproofed. This grenade is the foreign contract Mills 36M for Commonwealth countries including Pakistan and is the last grenade contract produced by R.O.F. Patricroft. The cast iron body of the grenade has following casting mark Q 2 (Qualcast, mould number 2) below the filler plug. The aluminium base plug is stamped No 36M Mk 1 1972 (date) ROF(P) (Royal Ordnance Factory) (Patricroft). The filling plug is made of aluminium. The steel grenade fly off handle is stamped ROF(P) (Royal Ordnance Factory). The grenades cast iron body retains its original lacquered finish.
