INERT DEACTIVATED. This is an ultra rare WW2 German 1942 dated 2.8cm Schwere Panzerbuchse 41 (28x187R) squeeze bore High Explosive (HE) round, Although this gun was called an anti-tank rifle, it was in fact a small piece of wheeled artillery intended for use by the German Fallschirmajeger (parachutists). The gun had a tapered bore on the Gerlich principal. The projectile carried two external flanges, as it proceeded toward the muzzle, the flanges were squeezed down, decreasing the diameter with the result that pressure did not drop off as quickly and the projectile was propelled to a higher velocity, the compressed air between the front and rear driving bands being vented by the 5 small holes in the front driving band. The guns bore tapered from 28mm at the breech to an exit diameter of 20mm. The original diameter of the 28mm projectile consisted of a flanged skirt with air bleed holes on the front steel driving band and a collapsible rear driving band. This round consists of a bottlenecked rimmed case which is headstamped 3d vu 42 (1942 date) WaA73. The steel percussion screw in primer is stamped c713nASt 6 buu 40 (1940 date). The steel squeeze bore projectile has 5 small air venting holes in the front collapsible driving band and is stamped round its circumference aux 1c WaA109 42 (1942 date). The projectile is fitted with an alloy nose fuse which is stamped 2cmKpf Z45 dom (Westfaelische Metall-Industrie , Lippstadt) 42 (1942 date) 202 WaA269. See Hogg, German artillery of WW2 pages 187 to 4189.
