INERT DEACTIVATED. This is a British WW1 (1916 dated) No 82 mark III nose fuse for the 5 inch howitzer and other shrapnel rounds. The fuse was a modified British No 80 time and percussion fuze where the time element was altered at the lower settings. The fuse is stamped No 82 III COW monogram (Coventry Ordnance Works) 11/16 (November 19). The fuse is complete with the original brass shrapnel adaptor ring which unscrews off the fuze.
