INERT DEACTIVATED. This is an extremely rare WW1 Imperial German wicker and wood shell carrier used to hold 3 rounds of ammunition for the 7.7cm FK 96 n.a. (7.7cm Fieldkanone 96 Neuer Art). This was the main field gun in the Imperial German army through WW1, and was much used in trench warfare to bombard the trenches and supplies. This wicker basket consists of three wicker tubes sewn together and measures 20 inches high and 13 ½ inches wide with ten wooden supports for the framework.. The bottom of the basket is closed at the bottom by wickerwork. The top of the basket has a pressed steel top with two leather straps sewn to the basket, with rivets holding it to the steel top on one side. The other side has two leather straps on the other side with stud fixings to hold the top closed. The basket is complete with its original buff canvas carrying handle. The basket contains three fired 77mm cartridge cases with their distinctive crimping to the top of the case.
