INERT DEACTIVATED. This is an unfired British L 118, 105MM Howitzer (105x371R) C.S.R. PROOF high explosive (substitute) round for the British 105mm light towed field gun. This gun was introduced in service with the British Army in 1975 and replaced the 105 mm pack howitzer. This unfired round consists of a brass cartridge case which is headstamped 105MM Fd RW297 LOT 9 and a crowfoot RLB (Royal Laboratories) 1980 (date). the cartridge case is complete with its polystyrene protective cap which is embossed RW321 FP 75. The weighted green projectile is stencilled in white 105MM FD SX147A 26-2-79 HE SUB (High Explosive Substitute) CSR PROOF OF PROP & 012 GD10/89 round the top on the other side. The projectile has a single copper driving band and is stamped round its circumference 105M I FD SX 1030 RLB 9/15/80 (date). The round is fitted with a steel and alloy dummy plug fuze is stamped round its circumference BM 09/81 (date) PLUG EC18412B. The fuze plug is protected by a clear soft rubber fuze protector.
