INERT DEACTIVATED. This is an impressive 1942 dated brass cartridge case for the Swedish 15.2cm/53 Model 1942 (152 x 1115R) naval gun. The Bofors 15cm/53 guns, (5.9”) were to be used in the Netherlands Eendracht class cruisers prior to World War 2, but the outbreak of World War II stopped work on those ships. Delays in shipbuilding caused by the war allowed Bofors to design and develop an automatic shell handling system which included dual ammunition hoists (AA and AP). Eventually, these guns had the bore increased from 15cm to 15.2cm to enable the guns to use Swedish 15.2cm projectiles and were fitted to the Swedish Tre Kronor (Three Crowns) class cruisers including the Gota Lejon. The turret design by Bofors and had high maximum elevations to allow these guns to operate in the AAA mode. The straight brass cartridge is headstamped 15.2cm 1942 (date) and various manufacturers and acceptance stamps. The base of the cartridge case is threaded for a screw in primer. The price includes UK delivery and no licence is required to possess this inert cartridge case in the UK if retained as part of a collection or display (34). O 2417
