In the 1820’s Walsall employed a watch system like that in many towns throughout the country. The force was created on 6 July 1832 with one superintendent and three constables.[1] Following the Municipal Corporation Act of 1835, the force came under the control of Walsall Corporation, via a watch committee. Following the recommendations of the 1960 Royal Commission on the Police, the force was merged, with Wolverhampton Borough Police and Dudley Borough Police, and parts of the Staffordshire Constabulary and Worcestershire Constabulary, into the West Midlands Constabulary from 1 April 1966. An original metal blackened two-piece helmet plate to Walsall Borough Police. It has a removable polished metal centre which depicts a bear stood up on its rear legs and chained to a tree. On the reverse there are three soldered fixing lugs and a removable pin for the centre piece. The plate is in excellent condition. The price includes UK delivery. POL 355.
