This is an excellent Imperial German Hunting Dagger / Sidearm. These substantial weapons were carried when hunting large game such as Boar for self defence and to deliver the 'death blow' to the hunted prey. It has an undamaged brass clamshell hilt with twisted horn grip. It has a full brass Knuckle guard with ornate cast decoration including the depiction of a hunter, fixed clamshell on one side cast with mounted hunter and stylised gothic head form finials on the cross guard and handguard. The centre of the cross guard has the stylised depiction of a wild Boar. The pommel has ornate cat decoration. Its 21 ½” double edged blade has staining and age related patina. The blade has 2 small rectangular panels either side near to the hilt both with indistinct blue etched numbers and letters which can be seen in the images. The blade is 1 ¼” broad at its widest. The sidearm measures 27” overall. The weapon is complete with original brown leather scabbard. The leather has light foliate tooled decoration, riveted belt loop and retaining strap with press stud fastener. All leather & stitching of the scabbard are intact.
