It is a factory-decommissioned military training rifle with matching DP stamps on both the metalwork and the stock.
There is an X mark next to the DP on the stock. Also an Enfield roundel stamp. Beneath the manufacturer name is stamped 1885, and underneath the date the Roman numeral IV.
The deep cut running across the top of the barrel just in front of the rear sight is a historical ordnance deactivation cut. Because this rifle was officially downgraded to a non firing trainer, military armourers cut into the barrel/chamber to ensure it could never build pressure or fire a live round again.
Collection only due to its size.
