In 1846, when war with Mexico was looming and Sam Walker’s United States Mounted Rifles needed powerful handguns for action on horseback, Walker ordered 1,000 improved Colt revolvers. The Walker model held 60 grains of black powder and chambered six, .44-caliber balls. The massive fire-power needed a much stronger frame and a larger design than earlier models. The reputation of the formidable Walker black powder firearms ensured Colt’s success. The heritage of these revolver's lives on today in the form of quality firearms made to Colt's patents by Italian firearms manufacturers such as Uberti. This quality made Italian Colt M1847 Walker’s USMR revolver is in excellent condition. It has a walnut grip, brass grip frame & captive loading lever. The cylinder is decorated with ‘Indian War’ scene and ‘banners with ‘Model USMR’ as found on period Colt USA revolvers. The pistol has Italian proofs & is serial number D 91276. The barrel is 7 ½” long and it measures 13 ½” overall. It has a blade foresight and ‘v’ notch hammer rear sight. Deactivated to UK/EU specification in 2026, the revolver’s hammer and trigger move but it does not cock & dry fire.
