EXTREMELY RARE, WW1 1915 Imperial German Waffenfabrik Mauser Model 1898/05 (New Pattern) G98 Mauser Rifle Butcher Bayonet With Quillon Ground Off & Green Painted Scabbard. BAYO 456 - BAYO 449
This is an unusual S98/05 (new pattern) with flash guard made in 1915. However the quillon has been ground off probably due to it being damaged or broken leaving a still serviceable bayonet. The 14 ½” butcher blade carries Mauser manufacturer detail (illustrated) and the spine ‘crown over W 15’ (1915 date mark). According to Anthony Carter in his book ‘German Bayonets The Models 98/02 & 98/05’ Mauser only produced this model of bayonet from 1916. Only 2 models dated 1915 had been recorded when the book was written making 1915 dated Mauser bayonets of this type extremely rare. This implies that production started very late 1915. The grooved wood grips are undamaged. The scabbard is the standard steel version which has been painted green. The price includes UK delivery. BAYO 449
