**ONE OF THE RAREST**WW2 British 2nd Pattern Fairbairn Sykes FS Commando Fighting Knife By Wilkinson Retailed By J & I Marshall Glasgow Scotland With Etched Panel And Hand Drawn Blade Complete With Scabbard. Sn 23579 - 23579

2nd Pattern Fairbairn Sykes 'FS' Fighting Knives were introduced in 1941. This is a great example of one of the rarest variants of the WW2, 2nd Pattern, Fairbairn Sykes Commando fighting knife with brass grip retailed by J&I Marshall Glasgow Scotland, a firm of Cutlery retailers dating back to 1888. J&I Marshall ran the Company during WW2. Post War Marshall knives are marked ‘Marshall Cutlers Ltd’. Marshall’s Company was wound up in 1992 (see page 111 of Ron Flook’s book ‘The Fairbairn Sykes Fighting Knife & Other Commando Knives’ which illustrates WW2 J&I etching plates held by Wilkinson and describes the type of etching found on this example as being reminiscent of Wilkinson’s work supporting the fact that these knives were made by Wilkinson. This fine WW2 example, one of the rarest variants has a knurled brass grip and correct WW2 era crisp etched panel at the ricasso ‘J&I Marshall Glasgow’ (illustrated). The clean hand drawn blade with medial ridge measures 170mm. It is complete with original leather scabbard with blackened brass chape and single belt loop. Its original elasticated retaining strap is present and as is common its 4 sewn on tabs have been period removed. A quality very rare FS knife with etched panel. The price includes UK delivery.
