**ORIGINAL**Victorian Era Zulu Warrior’s Assegai Short Stabbing Spear With Blackened Iron Blade & Forge Twist Tang. Sn 23527 - 23527

The Assegai is a short handled stabbing spear invented by the legendary Zulu king Shaka in the early 1800s. The weapon revolutionized tribal warfare in South Africa. Chieftains would also use their Assegai to direct the attack of Zulu warrior Impi battle formations. A photograph of a Zulu Warrior armed with an Assegai is illustrated in image 1. This Assegai measures 40 ½” overall length. It has a 10 ¼” long blackened iron leaf shaped blade. The blade is just under 1 ½” wide at its broadest. Its forge twist tang (4” exposed) is attached to its hand crafted wood shaft by a shrunken plaited leather hide strips. The leather is all tight and undamaged and the spear head is secure.
