This is an original WW1 French wicker artillery shell carrier to carry ammunition for the 75mm Canon de 75 mm Mle 1897 Field Gun and was used by French during WW1 to carry rounds of ammunition to the guns on the front. The body is made of wicker with 3 vertical wooden strengtheners, with a leather rim attached by wire. The leather rim has a lifting tab wired into one side to help in picking it up. The ammunition carrier measures 22 ¼ inches high. The shell carrier is in excellent condition with no damage to it.
