In June 1936 the Nazi Police buckle with a swastika as its centrepiece was introduced. The buckle featured the pebbled field of the Heer buckle and bore a large swastika in the centre surrounded by a circular band which carried a bandeau of oak leaves in its lower segment and the motto 'Gott Mit Uns' (God is with us) in Fraktur typeface in the top segment. These buckles were initially aluminum but in early WW2 1940 a steel buckle was added production of the steel buckles ran alongside the aluminum and finished in silver wash for the Shutzpolizei. A gilt wash finish was applied to Water Protection Police (Wasserschutzpolizei). Regulation one piece die struck buckles and 2 piece with clipped on faceplate variants were available. A few steel buckles with smooth fields are known. There appears to be no significant reason for this variation (see German Belt Buckles 1845-1945 Chapter 9 by Peter Nash). On page 310 of his book a period image of a Nazi Police NCO wearing a similar buckle to ours is illustrated and reproduced in our images, also on page 316 a silver wash steel buckle in the same form as ours is illustrated. Our variant is the regulation one piece die struck Nazi Police buckle silver wash steel pebbled field of the Heer buckle. It bears the correct large swastika in the centre surrounded by a circular band which carried a bandeau of oak leaves in its lower segment and the motto 'Gott Mit Uns' in Fraktur typeface in the top segment. The rear of the buckle has the correct prongs and bar. There are no visible maker marks on our buckle. The buckles silver wash is faded with age. The buckle is fitted with original leather belt. All leather and stitching of the belt are clean and intact and it has its steel bar clasp. The belt is 1 ¾” width and 35” overall length adjustable to approx. 28”. There are no visible maker or date marks on the belt. As with all of our stock this item is guaranteed 100% original. The price includes UK delivery. Sn 22513
