Adopted in 2002 as the OKC–3S Multipurpose Bayonet/Knife System, this pattern of bayonet remains the current-issue U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) bayonet. Designed and manufactured by the Ontario Knife Co. of Franklinville, New York. Production began in 2003. The bayonets were issued for use On The NATO U.S. M16 assault rifle and Military Combat shotguns such as the Remington 870 and the Mossberg 500 and 590. The OKC–3S has a longer 8”, heavier, more pointed blade than the Army's M9 bayonet. The blade is designed to penetrate body armour, which is increasingly encountered in theatres of war. The blade profile is reminiscent of the U.S.M.C.'s KA–BAR knife. Both the true edge and long false edge are very sharp. The true edge has deep serrations near the ricasso, for cutting rope and heavy materials. The ricasso is marked ‘Combat U.S.M.C.’ and the reverse ‘OKC 3S Ontario Knife Co.’ The bayonet measures 13 ¼” overall and has steel cross guard with muzzle ring. Its rubberised composite grooved grip is impressed on one side with ‘Eagle, Globe, & Anchor’ USMC logo, the reverse ‘USMC’. The bayonet is complete with correct original composite scabbard which has its original ceramic honing rod on the reverse. The scabbard has part of its original webbing belt carrier assembly. The webbing rear belt loop is present but the lower section plastic buckle arrangement has been field adapted, cut away to reduce bulk and the scabbards chape removed to allow water to drain from the scabbard in wet weather in order to protect the blade.
