This is a Prussian 1864 pattern infantry pioneers short sword Faschinenmesser (Fascine Knife) sidearm. The sword has a one piece brass hilt with diagonal ribs cast in on the right hand side and a smooth surface on the right. The sword has a beak shaped pommes and a s shaped crossguard, the left hand side of the blade carries the trade mark C&J (Clemen & Jung, Solingen) and an imperial inspection stamp. The hilt is regimentally stamped 35.AC.2.B4 (35th (Brandenburg) Fusiliers (Prince Henry of Prussia)) together with another crossed out stamp. The scabbard is made of leather with a brass locket and chape. The leather of each scabbard has wear to be expected but all leather and stitching are intact. The brass mounts have light knocks to be expected. The scabbard is marked 58.AC.2.13 together with another crossed out stamp. See page 196 of World Swords 1400-1945 By Withers.
